Understanding Emblem Crafting
In TFT Set 16, emblems are created by combining special base items with component items. There are two crafting bases: Spatula for Region emblems and Golden Frying Pan for Class emblems.
Knowing which combination creates which emblem helps you plan your item builds and make quick decisions during carousel rounds.
Spatula Combinations (Region Emblems)
The Spatula creates regional trait emblems. Each combination also retains a stat bonus from the component item.
| Recipe | Emblem Created | Stat Bonus |
|---|---|---|
| Spatula + B.F. Sword | Noxus | +10% Attack Damage |
| Spatula + Chain Vest | Demacia | +20 Armor |
| Spatula + Giant's Belt | Freljord | +150 Health |
| Spatula + Needlessly Large Rod | Ionia | +10 Ability Power |
| Spatula + Negatron Cloak | Yordle | +20 Magic Resist |
| Spatula + Recurve Bow | Void | +10% AS, +10 AD, +10 AP |
| Spatula + Sparring Gloves | Zaun | +20% Crit Chance |
| Spatula + Tear of the Goddess | Bilgewater | +1 Mana Regen |
| Spatula + Spatula | Tactician's Crown | +1 Team Size |
Spatula Emblem Tips
- **Void Emblem** (Spatula + Bow) gives the most stats: AS, AD, and AP
- **Yordle Emblem** (Spatula + Cloak) is essential for Yordle Veigar composition
- **Ionia Emblem** (Spatula + Rod) pairs well with AP carries
- **Tactician's Crown** (Spatula + Spatula) gives no trait but +1 team size
Frying Pan Combinations (Class Emblems)
The Golden Frying Pan creates class trait emblems with their own stat retentions.
| Recipe | Emblem Created | Stat Bonus |
|---|---|---|
| Frying Pan + B.F. Sword | Slayer | +10% Attack Damage |
| Frying Pan + Chain Vest | Defender | +20 Armor |
| Frying Pan + Giant's Belt | Bruiser | +150 Health |
| Frying Pan + Needlessly Large Rod | Arcanist | +10 Ability Power |
| Frying Pan + Negatron Cloak | Juggernaut | +20 Magic Resist |
| Frying Pan + Recurve Bow | Quickstriker | +10% Attack Speed |
| Frying Pan + Sparring Gloves | Vanquisher | +20% Crit Chance |
| Frying Pan + Tear of the Goddess | Invoker | +1 Mana Regen |
| Frying Pan + Frying Pan | Tactician's Shield | +1 Team Size + Defense |
| Frying Pan + Spatula | Tactician's Cape | +1 Team Size + Trait |
Frying Pan Emblem Tips
- **Invoker Emblem** (Pan + Tear) is S-tier for mana-hungry carries
- **Arcanist Emblem** (Pan + Rod) provides team-wide AP at high counts
- **Bruiser Emblem** (Pan + Belt) makes any unit tankier
- **Quickstriker Emblem** (Pan + Bow) great for auto-attack carries
Non-Craftable Emblems
Six emblems cannot be crafted and only come from augments, drops, or carousel:
| Emblem | Type | Why It's Special |
|---|---|---|
| Disruptor | Class | True damage on abilities |
| Gunslinger | Class | Multi-target attacks |
| Ixtal | Region | Elemental zones, limited champions |
| Longshot | Class | Range-based damage bonus |
| Piltover | Region | Top meta composition (Seraphine) |
| Warden | Class | Tank trait with taunt |
Strategy for Non-Craftable Emblems
When you obtain a non-craftable emblem:
- **Prioritize building around it** - Other players can't easily get these
- **Check EmblemComp.gg** for optimal compositions
- **Weight them higher in decisions** - They're rarer and often build-defining
- **Piltover and Warden** are especially valuable for top meta compositions
Regions Without Emblems
Three regions in Set 16 have no emblem at all:
- **Targon** - Must build naturally (Leona, Diana, Taric, Zoe, A.Sol, etc.)
- **Shadow Isles** - Must build naturally (Thresh, Kalista, Gwen, etc.)
- **Shurima** - Must build naturally (Azir, Nasus, Renekton)
If you're playing compositions featuring these traits, you cannot use emblems to reach higher breakpoints. Plan your team size accordingly.
Reforging: Spatula to Frying Pan
A key mechanic in Set 16: Spatula and Frying Pan can be reforged into each other.
This means:
- If you have a Spatula but need a Class emblem, convert it
- If you have a Frying Pan but need a Region emblem, convert it
- All craftable emblems are accessible from either base item
This flexibility increases your options significantly. Don't feel locked into one type because of your starting items.
Emblem Power Level
Riot has stated emblems are balanced as "3 components of power":
| Item Type | Power Level | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Raw Components | 1-2 | Early game |
| Emblems | ~3 | Secondary/Tertiary carries |
| Completed Items | 4+ | Primary carries |
This means:
- Don't sacrifice core items on your main carry for an emblem
- Emblems are ideal for support units, frontline, or secondary damage dealers
- The trait activation is the main value, not the stats
Quick Decision Framework
When you have emblem components, ask:
- **What emblem can I make?** (Check the tables above)
- **Does it hit a breakpoint?** (Use EmblemComp.gg)
- **Is the composition strong?** (Check meta tier lists)
- **Do I have a good holder?** (Secondary carry or support)
If all answers are positive, craft the emblem. If not, consider making a standard item instead.
Cheat Sheet: Common Scenarios
| Situation | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Spatula + Cloak with Yordle units | Make Yordle Emblem (enables Veigar) |
| Pan + Tear with AP carry | Make Invoker Emblem (S-tier) |
| Pan + Rod with any comp | Make Arcanist Emblem (universal value) |
| Spatula + Spatula | Make Crown (+1 team size is powerful) |
| Non-craftable emblem drop | Strongly consider building around it |
| Emblem doesn't hit breakpoint | Consider making a standard item instead |
Master emblem crafting, and you'll turn every Spatula and Frying Pan into a strategic advantage. Use EmblemComp.gg to see exactly which compositions benefit from your emblem choices.
