Vanguard Emblem

The Vanguard Emblem grants TFT Set 17's shield-scaling tank trait. Breakpoints at 2/4/6 provide escalating shields with a unique ally-interaction mechanic: when an ally gains a shield, the holder gains ability power. This creates a feedback loop where Vanguard-heavy boards become magic-damage threats late into extended fights. Features Nasus, Leona, Mordekaiser, Illaoi, Nunu & Willump, and Blitzcrank. Crafted from Frying Pan + Negatron Cloak, the emblem contributes +20 Magic Resist — a defensive stat stick that pairs with the trait's shield mechanic.

Slam the Vanguard Emblem when building a shield-heavy frontline or pursuing Vanguard 4/6 breakpoints. The emblem's Negatron makes it an MR-flavored tank item that also functions as a backline anti-AP hedge. Place the emblem on Mordekaiser (Dark Star/Conduit/Vanguard) for pure trait-stacking, or on Illaoi (Anima/Vanguard/Shepherd) for the densest trait stack in Set 17. Avoid Blitzcrank as an emblem carrier — he's a 5-cost capstone and his existing 3-trait kit doesn't need the push. Vanguard scales best with AP-oriented backlines since the ability-power feedback amplifies magic damage carries.

Vanguard pairs naturally with AP origins (Dark Star, Psionic, Stargazer) because the trait generates AP feedback. Anima synergy via Illaoi stacks trait efficiency. Shepherd pairs via Illaoi and Shen for summon-heavy boards. At Vanguard 6, AP items on your backline become multiplicatively stronger thanks to the trait feedback.
